Exodus 1

2 The childrē of Iaakób that came into Egypt 8 The newe Pharaóh oppreſſeth them. 12 The prouidence of God towarde them 15 The Kings cōmandemēt to the midwiues. 22 The ſonnes of the Ebrewes are commanded to be caſt into the riuer.
1.NOw a theſe are ye names of ye childré of Iſraél, wc came ī to Egypt (euerie man and his houſholde came thither wt Iaakób)
2.Reubén, Simeón, Leuí, and Iudáh,
3.Iſſachár, Zebulún, and Beniamín,
4.Dan, & Naphthalí, Gad, & Aſhér.
5.So all ye " ſoules, that came out of ye loynes of Iaakób, were * ſeuétie ſoules: Ioſeph was in Egypt already.
6.Now Ioſeph dyed and all his brethré, & that whole generacion.
7.¶ And the * children of Iſraél broght forthe frute and encreaſed in abundance, & were multiplied, and were exceding mightie, ſo that the b lād was ful of them.
8.Then there roſe vp a newe King in Egypt, who c knewe not Ioſeph.
9.And he ſaid vnto his people, Beholde, the people of the children of Iſraél are grea- ter and mightier then we.
10.Come, let vs worke wiſely with thẽ, leſt they multiplie, and it come to paſſe, that if there be warre, they ioyne them ſelues alſo vnto our ennemies, & fight againſt vs, and d get them out of the land.
11.Therefore did they ſet taſkemaſters ouer them, to kepe them vnder with burdens: and they built the cities Pithóm & Raamſes for the " treaſures of Pharaóh.
12.But the more they vexed them, the more they multiplied and grewe: therefore e they were more grieued againſt the children of Iſraél.
13.Wherefore the Egyptians by crueltie cauſed the children of Iſraél to ſerue.
14.Thus they made them weary of their liues by ſore labour in claye and in bricke, and in all worke in the field, with all maner of bondage, " which they laied vpon them moſte cruelly.
15.¶ Moreouer the King of Egypt cómanded the midwiues of the Ebrewe women, (of which the ones name was f Shiphráh, and the name of the other Puáh)
16.And ſaid, When ye do the office of a midwife to the women of the Ebrewes & ſe them on their " ſtolles, if it be a ſonne, thẽ ye ſhal kil him: but if it be a daughter, then let her liue.
17.Notwithſtanding the midwiues feared God, & did not as the King of Egypt cómanded them, but preſerued aliue the mẽ children.
18.Then the King of Egypt called for the midwiues, & ſaid vnto thẽ, Why haue ye done thus, and haue preſerued aliue the men children?
19.And the midwiues anſwered Pharaóh, g Becauſe the Ebrewes womẽ are not as the women of Egypt: for they are liuelie, and are deliuered yer ye midwife come at thẽ.
20.God therefore proſpered the midwiues, and the people multiplied & were very mightie.
21.And becauſe the midwiues feared God, therefore he h made them houſes.
22.i Then Pharaóh charged all his people, ſaying, Euerie man childe that is borne, caſt ye into the riuer, but reſerue euerie maidchilde aliue.
