Psalms 82

1 The Prophet declaring God to be present among the Judges and Magistrates, 2 Reproveth their partiality, 3 And exhorteth them to do justice 5 But seeing none amendment, 8 He desireth God to undertake the matter and execute justice him self.
¶ A Psalme committed to Asáph.
1.God standeth in the assembly of agods: he judgeth among gods.
2.How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the bwicked? Sélah.
3.Do right to the poor and fatherless: do justice to the poor and needy.
4.Deliver the poor and cneedy: save them from the hand of the wicked.
5.They know not and understand nothing: they walk in darkness, albeit all the dfoundations of the earth be moved.
6.I have said, Ye are gods, & ye all are children of the most High.
7.eBut ye shal die as a man, and ye princes, shal fall like others.
8.O God, arise, therefore judge thou the earth: for thou shalt inherit fall nations.

Notes

1-a.
The Prophet shows that if princes and judges do not their duty, God, whose authority is above them, will take vengeance on them.
2-b.
For thieves and murders find favour in judgement, when the cause of the godly cannot be heard.
4-c.
Not only when they cry for help, but when their cause requires aid and support.
5-d.
That is, all things are out of order, either by their tyranny or careless negligence.
7-e.
No title of honour shall excuse you, but you shalbe subject to God’s judgement, and render a compt (account) as well as other men.
8-f.
Therefore no tyrant shall pluck your right and authority from you.
