Psalm 54

¶ Dauid broght into great danger by the reaſon of the Ziphims, complaineth vpon the Name of God to deſtroye his enemies, 6 Promiſing ſacrifice and fre offrings for ſo great deliuerance.
¶ To him that excelleth on Neginóth. A Pſalme of Dauid, to giue inſtruction. When the Ziphims came & ſaid vnto Saúl, Is not Dauid hid among vs?
1.SAue me, ô God, by thy Name, and by thy power iudge me.
2.O God, heare my prayer: hearken vnto the wordes of my mouth.
3.For ſtrangers are riſen vp againſt me, & tyrants ſeke my ſoule: they haue not ſet God before them. Sélah.
4.Beholde, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that vpholde my ſoule.
5.He ſhal reward euil vnto mine enemies: oh cut them of in thy trueth!
6.Then I wil ſacrifice frely vnto thee: I wil praiſe thy Name, ô Lord, becauſe it is good.
7.For he hathe deliuered me out of all trou ble, and mine eye hathe ſene my deſire vpon mine enemies.

He declareth that when all meanes do faile, God wil deliuer, euen as it were by miracle thẽ that call vnto him with an vpright conſcience.

Saul and his armie, which were like cruel beaſtes & colde not be ſatiſfied but by his death.

Be they neuer ſo fewe, as he was with Ionathán.

According to thy faithful promes for my defence.

For hypocrites ſerue God for feare, or vp on conditions.

We may lawfully reioyce for Gods iudgemẽts againſt the wicked, if our affectiõns be pure.
