Psalm 46

A ſong of triumph or thankesgiuing for the deliuerace of Ieruſalém, after Sennahérib with his armie was driuē awaie, or ſome other like ſudden and maruelous deliuerance by the mightie hād of God. 8 Whereby the Prophet commending this great benefite, doeth exhorte the faithful to giue them ſelues wholly into the hand of God, douting nothing but that vnder his protection thei ſhal be ſafe againſt all the aſſautes of their enemies, becauſe this is his delite to aſſwage the rage of the wicked, when thei are moſte buſie againſt the iuſt.
¶ To him that excelleth vpon Alamóth a ſong committed to the ſonnes of Kórah.
1.GOd is our hope and ſtrength, & helpe in troubles, readie to be founde.
2.Therefore wil not we feare, thogh the earth be moued, and thogh the mountaines fall into the middes of the ſea.
3.Thogh the waters thereof rage & be troubled & the mountaines ſhake at the ſurges of the ſame. Sélah,
4.Yet there is a Riuer, whoſe ſtreames ſhal make glad ẏ Citie of God: euen ẏ Sanctuarie of the Tabernacles of the moſte High.
5.God is in the middes of it: therefore ſhal it not be moued: God ſhal helpe it verie early.
6.When the nations raged, & the kingdomes were moued, God thundred, & the earth melted.
7.The Lord of hoſtes is with vs: the God of Iaakób is our refuge. Sélah.
8.Come, & beholde the workes of ẏ Lord, what deſolations he hathe made in the earth.
9.He maketh warres to ceaſe vnto the ends of the worlde: he breaketh the bowe and cutteth the ſpeare, & burneth the chariots with fyre.
10.Be ſtil and knowe that I am God: I wil be exalted among the heathen, & I wil be exalted in the earth.
11.The Lord of hoſtes is with vs: the God of Iaakób is our refuge. Sélah.

Thei are aſſured that God can and wil defend his Church from all dangers and enemies.

To wit, how oft he hathe deſtroied his enemies & deliuered his people.

He warneth thẽ that perſecute ẏ Church to ceaſe their crueltie: for els thei ſhal fele that God is to ſtrong for them, againſt whome thei fight.
