Psalm 102

It ſemeth that this praier was appointed to the faithful to praie in the captiuitie of Babylon. 16 A conſolation for the building of the Church: 18 Whereof followeth the praiſe of God to be publiſhed vnto all poſteritie. 22 The conuerſion of the Gentiles, 28 And the ſtabilitie of the Church.
¶ A praier of the afflicted, when he ſhalbe in diſtres, and powre forthe his meditation before the Lord.
1.O Lord, heare my praier, and let my crye come vnto thee.
2.Hide not thy face from me in the time of my trouble: incline thine eares vnto me: when I call, make haſte to heare me.
3.For my daies are conſumed like ſmoke, and my bones are burnt like an herth.
4.Mine heart is ſmitten and withereth like graſſe, becauſe I forgate to eat my bread.
5.For the voice of my groning my bones do cleaue to my ſkin.
6.I am like a pelicane of the wildernes: I am like an owle of the deſerts.
7.I watche and am as a ſparowe alone vpõ the houſe toppe.
8.Mine enemies reuile me daiely, & they yͤ rage agaĩſt me, haue ſworne agaĩſt me.
9.Surely I haue eaten aſhes as bread, and mingled my drinke with weping,
10.Becauſe of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou haſt heaued me vp, and caſt me downe.
11.My daies are like a ſhadowe that fadeth, and I am withered like graſſe.
12.But thou, ô Lord, doeſt remaine for euer, and thy remembrance from generació to generacion.
13.Thou wilt ariſe & haue mercie vpon Zión: for the time to haue mercie thereon, for the appointed time is come.
14.For thy ſeruãts delite in the ſtones thereof, and haue pitie on the duſt thereof.
15.Then the heathen ſhal feare the Name of the Lord, & all the Kings of the earth thy glorie,
16.Whẽ the Lord ſhal buylde vp Zión, & ſhal appeare in his glorie,
17.And ſhal turne vnto the praier of the deſolate, and not deſpiſe their praier.
18.This ſhalbe writen for the generacion to come: & the people, which ſhalbe created, ſhal praiſe the Lord.
19.For he hathe loked downe frõ the height of his Sanctuarie: out of the heauen did the Lord beholde the earth,
20.That he might heare the mourning of the priſoner, and deliuer the children of death:
21.That thei maie declare the Name of the Lord in Zión, and his praiſe in Ieruſalém,
22.When the people ſhalbe gathered together, and the kingdomes to ſerue the Lord.
23.He abated my ſtrength in the waie, & ſhortened my daies.
24.And I ſaid, O my God, take me not away in the middes of my daies: thy yeres endure from generacion to generacion.
25.Thou haſt aforetime laied the fundacion of the earth, and the heauens are ye worke of thine hands.
26.Thei ſhal periſh, but thou ſhalt endure: euen thei all ſhal waxe olde as doeth a garment: as a veſture ſhalt thou change them, and thei ſhalbe changed.
27.But thou art the ſame, and thy yeres ſhal not faile.
28.The children of thy ſeruants ſhal continue, and their ſede ſhal ſtand faſt in thy ſight.

Whereby is ſignified, that albeit we be in neuer ſo great miſeries, yet there is euer place left for praier.

He declareth that in our praier we muſt liuely fele that, which we deſire and ſtedfaſtly beleue to obteine

Theſe exceſſiue kindes of ſpeache ſhew how muche yͤ affliction of yͤ Church oght to wounde the heartes of the godlie.

He ſheweth that the afflictions did not onely thus moue him, but chiefly the feling of Gods diſpleaſure

How ſoeuer we be fraile: yet thy promes is ſure & the remembrãce thereof ſhal cõfirme vs for euer

That is, the ſeuẽtie yeres, which by the prophet Ieremie he did appoint, Ier. 29,12

The more yͤ the Church is in miſerie and deſolation, the more oght the faithful to loue and pitie it

That is, when he ſhal haue drawen his Church out of the darkenes of death

The deliuerance of the Church is a moſte excellẽt benefite & therfore he cõpareth it to a newe creation: for in their baniſhment the bodie of the Church ſemed to haue bene dead, which by deliuerance was as it were created anewe.

Who now in their baniſhment colde loke for nothing but death.

He ſheweth that Gods Name is neuer more praiſed, then when religion floriſheth, and the Church increaſeth: which thing is chiefly accompliſhed vnder the kingdome of Chriſt.

The Church lamẽt that thei ſe not the time of Chriſt, which was promiſed, but haue but fewe yeres and ſhort daies.
26:r.
If heauen & earth periſh, muche more man ſhal periſh: but the Church by reaſon of Gods promes endureth for euer
28:s.
Seing yt haſt choſen thy Church out of the worlde, & ioyned it to thee, it can not but continue for euer: for yu art euerlaſtig.
