2 Kings 19

6 God promiſeth by Iſaiáh victorie to Hezekiáh 35 The Angel of the Lord killeth an hundreth and foure ſcore and fiue thouſand men of the Aſſyrians. 37 Saneherib is killed of his owne ſonnes.
1.ANd * when King Hezekiáh heard it, he rent his clothes and put on ſackeclothe, & came into the houſe of ỹ Lord,
2.And ſent Eliakím which was ỹ ſtewarde of the houſe, and Shebnáh the chanceller, and the Elders of the Prieſts clothed in ſackeclothe a to Iſaiáh the Prophet the ſonne of Amóz.
3.And they ſaid vnto him, Thus ſayth Hezekiáh, This day is a day of tribulacion and of rebuke, & blaſphemie: for the children are come to b the birth, and there is no ſtrength to bring forthe.
4.If ſo be the Lord thy God hathe heard all the wordes of Rabſhakéh, whome the the King of Aſſhúr his maſter hathe ſent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproche him with wordes which the Lord thy God hathe heard, thẽ lift thou vp t’y prayer for the c remnant that are left
5.¶ So the ſeruants of King Hezekiáh came to Iſaiáh.
6.And Iſaiáh ſaid vnto them, So ſhal ye ſay to your maſter, Thus ſayth the Lord, Be not afrayed of the wordes which thou haſt heard wherewith the ſeruãts of the King of Aſſhúr haue blaſphemed me.
7.Beholde, I wil ſend a blaſt d vpon him, & he ſhal heare a noyſe, & returne to his
8.So Rabſhakeh returned, and founde the King of Aſſhur fighting againſt Libnah : for he had heard that he was departed from Lachiſh.
9.e He heard alſo men ſay of Tirhakah King of Ethiopia, f Beholde, he his come out to fight againſt thee: he therefore departed and ſent other meſſengers vnto Hezekiah, ſaying,
10.Thus ſhal ye ſpeake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, & ſay, Let not thy God diſceiue thee in whome thou truſteſt, ſaying, Ieruſalem ſhal not be deliuered into the hand of the King of Aſſhur.
11.g Beholde, thou haſt heard what the Kings of Aſſhur haue done to all lands, how they haue deſtroyed them : and ſhalt thou be deliuered?
12.Haue the gods of the heathen deliuered them which my fathers haue deſtroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were in Thelaſar?
13.Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iua?
14.¶ So Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hand of the meſſengers, and red it : & Hezekiah went vp into the houſe of the Lord, and Hezekiah h ſpred it before the Lord.
15.And Hezekiah i prayed before the Lord, and ſaid, O Lord God of Iſrael, which dwelleſt betwene the Cherubims, thou art very God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth : thou haſt made the heauen & the earth.
16.Lord, k bowe downe thine eare, and heare: Lord open thine eyes and beholde, and heare the wordes of Saneherib, who hathe ſent to blaſpheme the l liuing God.
17.Trueth it is, Lord, that the Kings of Aſſhur haue deſtroyed the nacions and their lands,
18.And haue ſet fyre on their gods : for they were no gods, but the worke of mans hands, euen wood and ſtone : therefore they deſtroyed them.
19.Now therefore, O Lord our God, I beſeche thee, ſaue thou vs out of his hand, that all the m kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou, O Lord, art onely God.
20.¶ Then Iſaiah the ſonne of Amoz ſent to Hezekiah, ſaying, Thus ſayth the Lord God of Iſrael, I haue heard that which thou haſt prayed me, concerning Saneherib King of Aſſhur.
21.This is the worde that the Lord hathe ſpoken againſt him, O n virgine, daughter of Zion, he hathe deſpiſed thee, and laughed thee to ſcorne: o daughter of Ieruſalem, he hathe ſhaken his head at thee.
22.Whome haſt thou railed on? and whome haſt thou blaſphemed? and againſt whome haſt thou exalted thy voyce, and lifted vp thine eyes on hye? euen o againſt the Holy one of Iſrael.
23.By thy meſſengers thou haſt railed on the Lord, and ſaid, By the multitude of my charets I am come vp to the top of the mountaines, by the ſides of Lebanon, and wil cut downe the hie cedres thereof, and the faire fyre trees thereof, and I wil go into the p lodging of his borders, and into the foreſt of his Carmel.
24.I haue digged, and dronke the waters of others, and with the plant of my feete haue I dryed all the " floods cloſed in.
25.Haſt thou not heard, how I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? q and ſhulde I nowe bring it, that it ſhulde be deſtroyed, and layed on ruinous heapes, as cities defenſed?
26.Whoſe inhabitants haue ſmall power, and are afraied, and confounded: they are like the graſſe of the field, and grene herbe, " or graſſe on the houſe toppes, or as corne blaſted before it be growen.
27.I knowe thy dwelling, yea, thy goying out, and thy comming in, and thy furi againſt me.
28.And becauſe thou rageſt againſt me, and thy tumult is come vp to mine eares, I wil put mine f hoke in thy noſtrels, and my bridel in thy lippes, & wil bring thee backe againe the ſame way thou cameſt.
29.And this ſhalbe a t ſigne vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou ſhalt eate this yere ſuche things as growe of theſelues, and the next yere ſuche as growe without ſawing, and the third yere ſowe ye and reape, & plant vineyardes, and eat the frutes thereof.
30.And the remnant that is eſcaped of the houſe of Iudah, ſhal againe take u roote downewarde, and beare frute vpwarde.
31.For out of Ieruſalem ſhal go a remnant, and ſome that ſhal eſcape out of mount Zion: the x zeale of the Lord of hoſtes ſhal do this.
32.Wherefore thus ſaith the Lord, concerning the King of Aſſhur, He ſhal not entre into this citie, nor ſhote an arow there, nor come before it with ſhield, nor caſt a mount againſt it:
33.But he ſhal returne the way he came, and ſhal not come into this citie, ſayth the Lord.
34.For I wil defend this citie to ſaue it for mine owne ſake, & for Dauid my ſeruants ſake.
35.* And the ſame night the Angel of the Lord went out and ſmote in the campe of Aſſhur an hundreth foure ſcore and fyue thouſand : ſo when they roſe early in the morning, beholde, they were all dead corpses.
36.So Saneheríb King of Aſſhúr departed, and went his way, and returned, and dwelt in Niniuéh.
37.And as he was in the temple worſhiping Niſróch his god, Adramélech and Sharézer his ſonnes y ſlewe him with the ſworde: and they eſcaped into the land of Ararát, ad Eſarhaddón his ſonne reigned in his ſteade.
