2 Samuel 20

1 Shéba raiſeth Iſraél againſt Dauid. 10 Ioáb killeth Amáſa traiterouſly. 22 The head of Shéba is deliuered to Ioab. 23 Dauids chief officers.
1.THen there was come a thither a wicked man (named Shéba the ſonne of Bichrí, a man of Iemini) and he blewe the trũpet, and ſaid, We haue no parte in Dauid, [partial]
2.2 So euery man of Iſraél went from Dauid and followed Sheba the ſonne of Bichri: but the men of Iudah claue faſt vnto their King, from d Iorden euen to Ieruſalem.
3.3 When Dauid then came to his houſe to Ieruſalem, the King toke the ten women his * concubines, that he had left behinde him to kepe the houſe, & put them in warde, and fed them, but lay no more with them: but they were encloſed vnto ye day of their death, liuing in widowhode.
4.4 ¶ The ſaid the King to e Amaſá, Aſſemble me the mẽ of Iudah within thre daies, and be thou here preſent.
5.5 So Amaſá wẽt to aſſemble Iudah, but he taried longer then the time which he had appointed him.
6.6 Then Dauid ſaid to Abiſhai, Now ſhal Sheba the ſonne of Bichri do vs more harme thẽ did Abſalom: take thou therefore thy f lords ſeruants and followe after him, leſt he get him walled cities, & eſcape vs.
7.7 And there went out after him Ioabs mẽ, and the * Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mightie men: & thei departed out of Ieruſalem, to followe after Sheba the ſonne of Bichri.
8.8 Whẽ thei were at the great ſtone, which is in Gibeon, Amaſá went before them, & Ioabs g garment, that he had put on, was girded vnto him, & vpon it was a ſworde girded, which hanged on his loines in the ſheath, & as he went, it vſed to falle out.
9.9 And Ioab ſaid to Amaſá, Art thou in " health, my brother? & Ioab toke Amaſá by the beard with ye right hand to kiſſe him.
10.10 But Amaſá toke no hede to the ſworde that was in Ioabs hand: for therewith he ſmote him in the fift rib, and ſhed out his bowels to the grounde, & " ſmote him not the ſeconde time: ſo he dyed. then Ioab & Abiſhai his brother followed after Sheba the ſonne of Bichri.
11.11 And one of Ioabs men h ſtode by him, & ſaid, He that fauoreth Ioab, & he that is of Dauids parte, let him go after Ioab.
12.12 And Amaſá wallowed in blood in the middes of the way: & when the man ſawe that all the people ſtode ſtil, he remoued Amaſá out of the way into ye field, & caſt a cloth vpon him, becauſe he ſawe that euery one that came by him, ſtode ſtil.
13.13 ¶ When he was remoued out of the way, euery man went after Ioab, to followe after Sheba the ſonne of Bichri.
14.14 And he went through all the tribes of Iſraél vnto i Abel, and Bethmaachah and all places of Berim: and thei gathered together, and went alſo after him.
15.15 So thei came, and beſieged him in Abel, nere to Bethmaachah: and thei caſt vp a mount againſt the citie, & the people thereof ſtode on the ramper, and all the people that was with Ioab, k deſtroyed and caſt downe the wall.
16.16 Then cryed a wiſe woman out of the citie, Heare, heare, I pray you, ſay vnto Ioab, Come thou hither, that I may ſpeake with thee.
17.17 And when he came nere vnto her, the womã ſaid, Art thou Ioab? And he anſwered, Yea. And ſhe ſaid to him, Heare the wordes of thine handmayd. And he anſwered, I do heare.
18.18 Then ſhe ſpake thus, l Thei ſpake in the olde time, ſaying, Thei ſhulde aſke of Abel. and ſo haue thei continued.
19.19 I am m one of them, that are peaceable & faithful in Iſraél: and thou goeſt about to deſtroye a citie, and a mother in Iſraél: why wilt thou deuoure the inheritance of the Lord?
20.20 And Ioab anſwered, & ſaid, God forbid, God forbid it me, that I ſhulde deuoure, or deſtroye it.
21.21 The n matter is not ſo, but a mã of moũt Ephraim (Sheba the ſonne of Bichri by name) hath lift vp his hand againſt the King, euen againſt Dauid: deliuer vs him onely, & I wil departe from the citie. And the woman ſaid vnto Ioab, Beholde, his head ſhalbe throwen to thee ouer the wall.
22.22 Then the woman went vnto all the people with her wiſdome, and thei cut of the head of Sheba the ſonne of Bichri, & caſt it to Ioab: then he blewe the trumpet, and " thei retired from the citie, euery man to his tent: and Ioab returned to Ieruſalem vnto the King.
23.23 ¶ * The Ioáb was ouer all the hoſte of Iſraél, and Banaiah the ſonne of Iehoiada ouer the Cherethites & ouer ye Pelethites,
24.24 And Adoram ouer the tribute, and Ioſhaphat the ſonne of Ahilud the recorder,
25.25 And Sheia was ſcribe, and Zadok and Abiathar the Prieſts,
26.26 And alſo Ira the Iairite was o chief about Dauid.
