Genesis 44

15 Ioſeph accuſeth his brother of theft. 33 Iudáh offreth him ſelfe to be ſeruant for Beniamin.
1.AFterwarde he cõmanded his ſtuard, ſaying, Fil the mens ſackes with fode, as muche as thei can cary, and put euerie mans money in his ſackes mouthe.
2.And a put my cup, I meane the ſiluer cup, in the ſackes mouthe of the yongeſt, and his corne money. And he did according to the commandement that Ioſeph gaue him.
3.And in the " morning the men were ſent away, thei, and their aſſes.
4.And when thei went out of the citie not farre of, Ioſeph ſaid to his ſtuard, Vp, followe after the men: & whẽ thou doeſt ouertake them, ſay vnto them, Wherefore haue ye rewarded euil for good?
5.Is that not the cup, wherein my lord drinketh ? b and in the which he doeth deuine and prophecie? ye haue done euil in ſo doing.
6.And whẽ he ouertoke thẽ, he ſaid thoſe wordes vnto them.
7.And thei anſwered him, Wherefore ſaieth my lord ſuche wordes? God forbid that thy ſeruants ſhulde do ſuche a thing.
8.Beholde, the money which we found in our ſackes mouthes, we broght againe to thee out of the land of Canáan: how then ſhulde we ſteale out of thy lordes houſe ſiluer, or golde?
9.With whomeſoeuer of thy ſeruants it be founde, let him dye, and we alſo wil be my lords bondmen.
10.And he ſaid, Now then let it be according vnto your wordes: he with whome it is founde, ſhalbe my ſeruant, & ye ſhal be " blameles.
11.Then at once euerie mã toke downe his ſacke to the grounde, and euerie one opened his ſacke.
12.And he ſearched, and began at the eldeſt and left at the yongeſt: and the cup was founde in Beniamins ſacke.
13.Then thei c rent their clothes, and laded euerie man his aſſe, and went againe into the citie.
14.¶ So Iudáh & his brethren came to Ioſephs houſe (for he was yet there) and thei fel before him on the grounde.
15.Thẽ Ioſeph ſaid vnto thẽ, What acte is this, which ye haue done? Knowe ye not that ſuche a man as I, can deuine & prophecie?
16.Then ſaid Iudáh, What ſhal we ſay vnto my lord? what ſhal we ſpeake? & how can we iuſtifie our ſelues? d God hathe founde out the wickednes of thy ſeruantes: beholde we are ſeruants to my lord, bothe we, and he, with whome the cup is founde.
17.But he anſwered, God forbid, ẏ I ſhulde do ſo, but the man, with whome the cup is founde, he ſhalbe my ſeruant, & go ye in peace vnto your father.
18.¶ Thé Iudáh drewe nere vnto him, and ſaid, Oh my lord, let thy ſeruant now ſpeake a worde in my lords eares, and let not thy wrath be kindled againſt thy ſeruant: for thou art euen e as Pharaóh.
19.My lord aſked his ſeruãts, ſaying, * Haue ye a father, or a brother?
20.And we anſwered my lord, We haue a father that is olde, and a yong " childe, which he begate in his age: and his brother is dead, & he alone is left of his mother, and his father loueth him.
21.Now ẏ ſaideſt vnto thy ſeruants, Bring him vnto me, that I may " ſet mine eie vpon him.
22.And we anſwered my lord, The childe can not departe from his father: for if he leaue his father, his father wolde dye.
23.Then ſaideſt thou vnto thy ſeruãts, * Ex-cept your yonger brother come downe with you, loke in my face no more.
24.So when we came vnto thy ſeruant our father, and ſhewed him what my lord had ſaid,
25.And our father ſaid vnto vs, Go againe, bye vs a litle fode,
26.Thẽ we anſwered, We can not go downe: but if our yongeſt brother " go with vs, then wil we go downe: for we may not ſe the mãs face, except our yongeſt brother be with vs.
27.Then thy ſeruant my father ſaid vnto vs, Ye knowe that my f wife bare me two ſonnes,
28.And the one went out from me, and I ſaid, Of a ſurety he is torne in pieces, and I ſawe him not ſince.
29.Now ye take this alſo away from me: if death take him, then g ye ſhal bring my gray head in ſorowe to the graue.
30.Now therefore, whẽ I come to thy ſeruant my father, and the childe be not with vs (ſeing that his " life dependeth on the childes life)
31.Then when he ſhal ſe that the childe is not come, he wil dye: ſo ſhal thy ſeruants bring the gray head of thy ſeruant our father with ſorowe to the graue.
32.Doutles thy ſeruant became ſuertie for the childe to my father, and ſaid, * If I bring him not vnto thee againe, thẽ I wil beare the blame vnto my father for euer.
33.Now therefore, I pray thee, let me thy ſeruant bide for the childe, as a ſeruant to my lord, and let the childe go vp with his brethren.
34.For h how can I go vp to my father, if the childe be not with me, onles I wolde ſe the euil that ſhal come on my father?
