3 Ioſephs brethren come into Egypt to bye corne. 7 He knoweth them, and tryeth them. 24, 25 Simeón is put in priſon. 26 The other returne to their father to fet Beniamin.
1.THen a Iaakób ſawe that there was fo- de in Egypt, & Iaakób ſaid vnto his ſonnes, Why b gaze ye one vpõ another?
2.And he ſaid, Beholde, I haue heard that there is fode in Egypt; * Get you downe thether & bye vs fode thence, that we may liue, and not die.
3.¶ So went Ioſephs ten brethré downe to bye corne of the Egyptians.
4.But Béniamin Ioſephs brother wolde not Iaakób ſend with his brethré. for he ſaid, Leſt death ſhulde c befall him.
5.And And the ſonnes of Iſraél came to bye fode amōg them that came: for there was famine in the land of Canáan.
6.Now Ioſeph was gouernor of the land who ſolde to all the people of the lād: thē Ioſephs brethrē came, and bowed their face to the grounde before him.
7.And whē Ioſeph ſawe his brethrē, he knewe them, and e made him ſelfe ſtrange toward them, and ſpake to them roughly, & ſaid vnto them, Whēce come ye? Who anſwered, Out of the land of Canáan, to bye vitaile.
8.(Now Ioſeph knewe his brethrē, but they knewe not him.
9.And Ioſeph remembred the * dreames, which he dreamed of them) and he ſaid vnto them, Ye are ſpies, and are come to ſe the " weakenes of the land.
10.But they ſaid vnto him, Nay, my lord, but to bye vitaile thy ſeruātes are come.
11.We are all one mans ſonnes: we meane truely, and thy ſeruantes are no ſpies.
12.But he ſaid vnto them, Nay, but ye are come to ſe the weakenes of the land.
13.And they ſaid, We thy ſeruantes are twelue brethren, the ſonnes of one man in the land of Canáan: and beholde, the yōgeſt is this day with our father, and one " is not.
14.Againe Ioſeph ſaid vnto thē, This is it that I ſpake vnto you, ſayīg, Ye are ſpies.
15.Hereby ye ſhalbe proued: f by the life of Pharaóh, ye ſhal not go hēce, except your yongeſt brother come hether.
16.Sēd one of you which may fet your brother, and ye ſhal be kept in priſon, that your wordes may be proued, whether there be trueth in you: or els by the life of Pharaóh ye are but ſpies.
17.So he put them in warde thre dayes.
18.Then Ioſeph ſaid vnto them the third day, This do, and liue: for I g feare God.
19.If ye be true men, let one of your brethrē be bounde in your priſon houſe, & go ye, carie fode for the famine of your houſes:
20.* But bring your yonger brother vnto me, that your wordes may be tried, and ý ye die not: and they did ſo.
21.And they ſaid one to another, h We haue verely ſinned againſt our brother, in ý we ſawe the anguiſh of his ſoule, when he beſoght vs, and we wolde not heare him: therefore is this trouble come vpon vs.
22.And Reubén anſwered them, ſaying, * Warned I not you, ſaying, i Sinne not againſt the childe, and ye wolde not heare? and lo, his blood is now required.
23.(And they were not aware that Ioſeph vnderſtode them: for he " ſpake vnto them by an interpreter)
24.Then he turned from them, and k wept, and turned to them againe, and communed with them, and toke Simeón from amōg them, and bounde him before their eyes.
25.So Ioſeph commanded that thei ſhulde fille their ſackes with wheat, and put euerie mans money againe in his ſacke, & giue them vitaile for the iourney: and thus did he vnto them.
26.And they laied their vitaile vpon their aſſes, and departed thence.
27.And as one of them opened his ſacke for to giue his aſſe prouandre in the ynne, he eſpied his money: for lo, it was in his ſackes mouthe.
28.Then he ſaid vnto his brethren, My money is reſtored: for lo, it is euen in my ſacke. And their heart " l failed them, & they were aſtonniſhed, and ſaid one to an other, What is this, that God hathe done vnto vs?
29.And they came vnto Iaakób their father vnto the land of Canáan, and tolde him all that had befallen them, ſaying,
30.The man, who is lord of the land, ſpake roughly to vs, and put vs in priſon as ſpies of the countrei.
31.And we ſaid vnto him, We are true mē, and are no ſpies.
32.We be twelue brethren, ſonnes of our father: one is " not, and the yongeſt is this day with our father in the lād of Canáan.
33.Then the lord of the countrei ſaid vnto vs, Hereby ſhal I knowe if ye be true mē: Leaue one of your brethren with me, and take fode for the famine of your houſes & departe,
34.And bring your yongeſt brother vnto me, that I may knowe that ye are no ſpies, but true mē: ſo wil I deliuer you your brother, and ye ſhal occupie in the land.
35.And as they emptied their ſackes, beholde, euerie mans bundel of money was in his ſacke: and when they and their father ſawe the būdels of their money, they were afraied.
36.Then Iaakób their father ſaid to them, Ye haue robbed me of my childrē: Ioſeph is not, and Simeón is not, and ye wil take Bēiamín: all theſe thīgs " are againſt me.
37.Then Reubén anſwered his father, ſaying, Slay my two ſónes, if I brīg him not to thee againe: deliuer him to mine hand, and I wil bring him to thee againe.
38.But he ſaid, My ſone ſhal not go downe wͭ you: for his brother is dead, & he is left alone: if death come vnto him by ý way, which ye go, then ye ſhal bring my graie head with ſorowe vnto the graue.
